Lauren was in a car accident on Monday morning, May 14.
The van she was riding in hit a semi-truck. The collision sent the van spinning into a pole, which ejected Lauren from the side door.
She was riding in the back seat. The driver and front passenger sustained minor injuries (in comparison).
Right now (Monday, May 21), Lauren is listed in SERIOUS BUT STABLE condition at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Our main concern right now is the brain swelling. She had a tap put into her skull to drain fluid and relieve pressure. On Day 1, she had to be tapped every 20 to 30 minutes. Today, the pressure is being released about every 12 hours.
However, what Lauren's brain should be doing is releasing the pressure on it's own. This is done via her spine. If this doesn't happen, if her brain doesn't do this on it's own, she'll have to have a shunt surgically place in her skull.
Right now, this is our primary concern. This is what we're praying for.
